Feedback From Students

Ever wonder what we do with feedback from course evaluations?

Student feedback is used for a variety of reasons:

  1. to monitor program effectiveness;
  2. to enhance the curriculum;
  3. to develop new programs
  4. to continue to improve both our corporate and traditional foreign language and ESL programs on an ongoing basis.

So, what is new?

  1. Our German language proficiency test and curriculum are now aligned with LEVEL 1 OR A1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference.
  2. We have adapted our curriculum framework to meet the skill level descriptions provided by the Interagency Language Roundtable (www.govtilr.org), so that students are truly prepared to demonstrate proficiency at -- or higher than -- acceptable performance levels in the target language. We have prepared students from the US Department of Commerce, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security for language proficiency for their overseas and domestic assignments.

Read their comments below:

"My professor went far above and beyond the vocabulary and taught the critical aspects of life abroad, aspects that I need in order to properly function in my duties as an American diplomat (such as culture, history, philosophy, influences and customs and courtesies). I feel that I am now better prepared to engage in international affairs on behalf of the United States of America than many seasoned diplomats. I extend my heart-felt gratitude to your department and the University for helping me become a much better representative of the United States." "I could't have been happier with my choice of UDM's program. Professors Duelz and Iwondo were top-notch. They did their absolute best to see me through a difficult 6-month intensive training period leading up to my departure to French-speaking Africa. I would definitely use UDM again." Thanks to your feedback, our programs continue to deliver the quality language instruction our students need in order to become proficient . . .

. . . and our instructors continue to receive our praise:

"It's professors like these who make universities proud and top ranked. My Arabic professor was willing to spend as much time as possible to make her students understand and enjoy the course. Her life experiences and shared advice added to the value of the class."(Arabic student - Fall 2006)

"Professor Sciole was amazing...probably one of the best classes I've had all semester. She was also very helpful with being available for students outside of class." (Spanish student - Fall 2006)

"The Latin language causes one to think more concisely about the way one communicates in English. It also builds logic and attention to detail. By reading authors from thousands of years ago, who have the same struggles and thoughts we do no, it lends a sense of continuity to the world around us. Professor Young is an OUTSTANDING teacher. His wide range of personal experience and his vast, lightening-quick intellect are delights!" (Latin student - 2005)

"I will need to speak Spanish while I am in Mexico, so I enjoyed the emphasis on conversation because it will be the most widely used form for me.Professor Quinones prepared me for the real Spanish-speaking world." (Conversational Spanish student - Winter 2006)

"German is a challenging language and intellectual stimulating. My German professor was personable, helpful and willing to go the extra mile!" (German language student - Fall 2006)
