
Summer Language & Culture Camp 2008
Purpose
UDM’s English Language & Culture Camp (“Summer Camp”) offers students from the People’s Republic of China the opportunity to learn the English language, sample campus life, expand their cultural experiences through a wide range of academic and non-academic activities, field trips, workshops and excursions. Students can elect to take two or all three English courses for academic credit (6-9 credit hours are available):
- Intermediate or Advanced Academic Writing Seminar & TOEFL PREP
- Accent/Pronunciation Enhancement Workshop
- Business/Legal English - Terminology & Overview
Aims & Contents
The Program aims to do the following:
- To enhance and improve English language fluency in an immersion context
- To learn about American culture at an American university
- To increase cultural experiences through local and travel excursions
- To learn about higher education opportunities in the United States
- To experience campus life at an American university in an urban setting
Special Workshops, Lectures & Excursions
Program features include the following:
- Lectures from business, legal and media personnel throughout the Detroit Metropolitan area
- Special tours of Detroit’s museums and historical venues, courts, businesses, diners, sports & entertainment venues including visits to The Henry Ford Museum, Ford Rouge Plant, Ford, GM World Headquarters, Tiger game, Detroit Institute of Arts, The Motown Museum & much more!
- Outdoor adventure camp, including a trip to Mackinac Island! (*available with three week stay)
