After the success of last year’s production, we are pleased to bring back a new updated version of this holiday classic. A small cast of actors play dozens of characters inside of the radio play It’s A Wonderful Life complete with live sound effects. DETROIT- The Theatre Company of University of Detroit Mercy announces the holiday production of “It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” by Joe Landry which will be presented at the Marlene Boll Theatre at the Boll Family Y.M.C.A. in downtown Detroit. Performances of this beloved American classic will occur at new start times of 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and 3:00 p.m. on Sundays from December 3 through 13, 2016.
“The Theatre Company’s second annual production of “Wonderful Life” will feature a diverse cast with new scenic and costume designs and a refreshing twist by director Blair Anderson,” said Greg Grobis, Managing Director for the Company.
“Radio plays take us back to the absolute roots of theatre—that of story-telling. This adaptation for the stage of “It’s a Wonderful Life” captures all of the emotion and charm of Frank Capra’s iconic film through the imaginative talents of our cast” states director Blair Anderson.
“It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” retells the tale of George Bailey, a man on the brink of desperate deeds. Through the efforts of his guardian angel, Clarence, George begins to to realize that he has truly lived a wonderful life. This uplifting story features seven actors portraying over 40 different characters on a sound studio set during the Golden Age of radio, complete with zany sound effects, colorful 1940’s glamor, and a few fresh surprises.
The cast of “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Radio Play” features new UDM Theatre faculty member Andrew Papa and new Theatre major Bridget Smith. Actor’s Equity Association member Jacquie Floyd and area actors William Bryson and Andrew Laux add their professional experience to the production. Rounding out the radio play troupe is theatre minor Ashe Lewis and UDM Alumni Jonathan Krause.
The production team features Scenic and Costume Designer Melinda Pacha, Lighting Designer and Technical Director Alan Devlin, and Managing Director Greg Grobis.

Theatre Industry Nights will occur on Thursdays December 3 and 10. The Theatre Company is proud to offer the theatre industry $10 tickets for these performances. Mention “Theatre Industry” to receive the $10 ticket rate for Thursday’s performances only.
On Saturday, December 5 the University of Detroit Mercy will have an informal network night for the College of Liberal Arts and Education following the show. Mention “Network Night” when ordering tickets to receive a special $17 rate for the December 5 performance.
“It’s a Wonderful Life: A Radio Play” opens on December 3 at the Marlene Theatre at the Boll Family YMCA located at 1401 Broadway St, Detroit 48226. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on December 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12 and at 3:00 p.m. on December 6 and 13.

Ticket Office hours are Tuesday - Friday, Noon - 5:00 pm. The Ticket Office will open 45 minute prior to curtain at Marlene Boll Theatre at the Boll Family Y.M.C.A.
Individual ticket prices are $25 for Adults, $22 for discount admission which is available for Seniors, UDM Faculty, Staff, Alumni, Donors, and for Detroit residents. Student admission is $10 with valid High School, College and University ID. *Please note that a $2 service fee is included in each ticket to cover ticket and processing costs.
