Barbara J. BolzAssistant Professor of Communication Studies Teaches Intercultural Communication, Public Opinion, and Study of Social Movements. Bolz is the Professor of record for the Language and Cultural Training Study Abroad Program--Brazil. Her research and publications deal with issues of diversity. Bolz is the recipient of the Elizabeth Youngjohn Teaching Award from Wayne State University. She holds a B.A. degree from Oakland University and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Wayne State University. She came to UDM in 1989. |
Charles A. DauseAssociate Professor of Communication Studies. Dause's academic background is in Communication Studies with a specialty in argumentation and debate. He is co-author of Argumentation: Inquiry and Advocacy, a college argumentation text. Dause developed and implemented the Academic Exploration Program at the University. He has done numerous programs on undergraduate advising issues for the National Academic Advising Association. Dause holds a B.A. degree from Muskingum College and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Wayne State University. He came to UDM in 1964. |
Vivian I. Dicksemail: dicksvi@udmercy.edu Professor and Chair of Communication Studies, teaches courses in argumentation, audience analysis, group dynamics, persuasion, and public speaking. Dicks' research and publications deal with legal rhetoric. Dicks holds a B.A. degree from Wayne State University, M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Ohio State University, and a J.D. degree from the Detroit College of Law. She came to UDM in 1979. |
Cynthia A. LanghamAssistant Professor of Communication Studies Teaches Fundamentals of Speech, Interpersonal Communication, Persuasion, Small Group Communication, and Theories of Listening Behavior, and serves as the director of the Communication Studies Department's internship program. Langham's professional presentations have dealt with listening within the workplace and teacher/student classroom interaction. She has been featured in the Detroit Free Press and on WJR radio. She is a recipient of the Sears-Roebuck Foundation Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award. Langham holds B.A. and M.A. degrees from Eastern Michigan University. She came to UDM in 1984. |
Tom StantonAssistant Professor of Communication Studies Stanton teaches journalism, media ethics, and sports history. He is author of four nationally recognized nonfiction books, including The Final Season and Ty and the Babe, and has been published in The New York Times and featured on CNN, ESPN, and NPR. A co-founder and former editor of the The Voice newspapers, Stanton holds a B.A. from Oakland University and an M.A. from Michigan State University. In 1995, he was named a Knight-Wallace fellow at the University of Michigan. He returned to UDM in 2008. |
