The 2008 - 2009 season will continue the Theatre Company’s award-winning tradition of theatrical excellence in the Metro Detroit community. The Theatre Company will present its season at the Marygrove Theatre located on the campus of Marygrove College. The 38th season will feature The Sunshine Boys, How I Learned to Drive, Speech and Debate and The Threepenny Opera.

University Symposium on the American Economy in Crisis

Several economic experts throughout Michigan will be speaking at University of Detroit Mercy’s 2008 “American Economy in Crisis” Symposium on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at Macomb University Center, 44575 Garfield Rd. in Clinton Township. The event will be held from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Joseph Weglarz, senior lecturer at University Detroit Mercy will give the opening comments and discuss “The Winners and Losers,” in our current economy.

Patricia Isasa Discusses Her Fight for Justice

In July of 1976, Architect Patricia Isasa was 16-years-old and was targeted for her part in organizing a high school student union in Argentina. She was kidnapped by Argentine police and soldiers, tortured and held prisoner without a trial for two and a half years. Once released, she took action and investigated her kidnappers. Thanks to her strong will, eight prisoners were jailed for the crimes they committed.

University of Detroit Mercy School of Law to celebrate annual Red Mass

The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law will hold its annual Red Mass on Tuesday, September, 23, 2008 at noon. at Sts. Peter and Paul Jesuit Church.  Each year, lawyers and judges come together asking God to inspire and guide their work in the legal profession.  The Red Mass is also an opportunity for members of the legal community to renew the Lawyer’s Oath of Commitment, solemnly swearing to support the Constitution and laws of the United States and reaffirm their belief in human rights and equality of all, as proclaimed in the Bill of Rights.  Members of the Michigan and federal judiciary, as well as School of Law alumni and members of the State Bar are invited.

“Sometimes to tell a secret, you first have to teach a lesson.” Paula Vogel’s award-winning drama, How I Learned To Drive, travels back and forth through time, giving the audience an in-depth look at a dysfunctional and enabling family that contains a relationship between an older man, Uncle Peck, and a much younger girl, Li’l Bit. Provocative, smart and mesmerizing, Vogel’s portrait examines a taboo subject in a startling new light, using laughter and tears as two very human reactions to life’s unexpected twists and turns. Through a series of driving instructions, the UDM Theatre Company will travel this journey in their second production of their 2008 -2009 season.
