Victor Barry Dauphin

Barry Dauphin, Ph.D. is an assistant professor of psychology at UDM. He received his B.S. in psychology from Tulane University, New Orleans, LA in 1981 and received the Aaron Hartman Award for undergraduate work in psychology. He received a Ph.D. in Psychology from Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY in 1988. He completed a predoctoral internship at Yale Medical School, New Haven, CT (1987-8) and a two year postdoctoral program in psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the Detroit Psychiatric Institute through the Wayne State School of Medicine, Detroit, MI (1988-90).

He joined the psychology faculty at UDM as an instructor in 2004 and was appointed to a position as assistant professor in 2005. Dr. Dauphin teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in psychology, including Psychological Assessment I, II & III, Individual Child Psychotherapy, Principles of Psychotherapy, Introductory Psychology, and Abnormal Psychology. His scholarly interests include research into perception, cognition, & personality, the psychological effects of living in contemporary American society, psychoanalysis, philosophy & psychology as well as professional education, professional development, and factors affecting professional practice.

Dr. Dauphin has long been involved in professional psychological organizations. He is the former editor of the Michigan Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology (MSPP) Newsletter and has served as President of MSPP (1997-99, 2003-5, 2005-7). He has served as the President (2006-8) of Section IV (Local Chapters) of Division 39 (Psychoanalysis) of the American Psychological Association (APA). Dr. Dauphin serves as chair of the research committee of the International Federation for Psychoanalytic Education.
