Congratulations to . . .
Professor Heather Hill-Vasquez, whose book Sacred
Players was recently published by the Catholic University Press,
and who was co-awarded UDM's 2007 Faculty Achievement Award.
Professor John Freeman, Sr., whose essay "Engine
Nearing Perfection" appeared in the online journal CTheory.
Professor Claire Crabtree, Director of Creative Writing,
whose poems "Primordial" and "At the Peasent Museum, Bucharest"
appeared in The Innisfree Poetry Journal.
Randy DeVita, whose story "Riding the Doghouse"
was selected by Stephen King for inclusion in the 2007 Best American
Short Stories, and who was singled out by King for praise in an October
2007 essay in the New York Times Book Review.
Fall 2007 English Department Visiting Writers . . .
F. Daniel Rzicznek, whose poems have appeared in numerous
journals including The New Republic and Boston Review,
visited an English class in September, and read from his work at the campus
Grounds Coffeehouse. Dan's manuscript of poems Neck of the World was selected
by Alice Quinn, poetry editor of The New Yorker, as the winner
of the Swenson Award. Dan's book was subsequently published by Utah State
University Press in 2007.
George Dila, whose fiction and personal essays have
appeared in such publications as North American Review, Driftwood,
Christian Science Monitor, Detroit Free Press and others, will read
at UDM on November 19. His short story collection, The End of the
World, was published by Pure Heart Press in 2006.
