John Freeman's teaching and research interests lie in Renaissance and Shakespearean literature, More's Utopia and the scientific modeling of literary texts. His most recent work deals with chaos theory as it plays out in Tristram Shandy (Studies in the Novel) and the relationship of More's Utopia to statutes and proclamations published in the period (ELH). He recently completed an article on the Catholic dimensions of Hamlet as a recusant text (Fordham UP). As a teacher, he enjoys engaging students in dialogues about literature and working with them on publications such as The English Spectator. With a son and daughter having graduated from UDM, he can speak knowingly about the virtues of the institution. And he's a big basketball fan. |
